BIO

Hank Ball is an award-winning artist, designer, problem-solver, and recent BFA graduate of the Johnny Carson School of Emerging Media Arts. Rooted in film, his creative practice also includes photography, with a strong emphasis on analog media, particularly mixing it with new and emerging mediums. His work often explores nostalgia-driven topics, and he is deeply interested in formats like 35mm and medium format film. He specializes in various digital and interactive art forms, such as live experiences with 3D engines, speculative design, interactive installations, sound design, music production, photography, graphic design, and storytelling through visual media. He has been telling stories through many mediums such as analog film, digital cinema, and sound, always approaching each project as a curious maker and problem-solver.

STORY

Hank grew up in Elmwood, Nebraska, where he developed a love for art, especially drawing and painting. As a child, he honed his skills under the guidance of his cousin, who was a graphic design artist. Despite a challenging childhood, Hank found solace in art and technology. He pursued his passion for digital art in high school and discovered a newfound love for film and video production. This led him to enroll in the Johnny Carson School of Emerging Media Arts at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. During his time in college, Hank has immersed himself in the world of digital art and film. He has worked on various film sets and started to branch out into different mediums of art, such as interactive and speculative design, and AI image generation. Emerging Media Arts gave him a path to experiment with new and emerging technologies and has helped shape his artistic perspective. After graduation, he plans to continue his work further.
